Coalition Could Seize Control Of Harborough District Council
Written by HFM News on 9th May 2023
Talks are underway which could see a coalition formed to seize control of Harborough District Council.
No political party is in overall control following last week’s election, which saw the Conservatives lose their majority.
Now, the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Green party are discussing coming together to form a power-sharing ‘traffic-light coalition’ so they could lead the council.
Leader of the Lib Dem group, Cllr Phil Knowles, spoke to HFM:

Following the election, Cllr Phil King has stepped down as leader of the Conservative group, with a successor set to be announced following a meeting of party members tonight.
He says it is time for someone else to take-over, but told HFM he is proud of what was achieved under his four years of leadership:

The Conservatives lost seven seats at the election, with Labour and the Lib Dems gaining seats, along with the Green Party, which won three seats and will be represented on the council for the first time.
