Community Groups Benefit From Construction Traffic Fines

Charity and community groups in Desborough have been handed a share of over £28,000 after construction vehicles failed to follow an approved route to a new homes site.

Contractors were fined by Persimmon Homes, who are building 700 houses off the B576 between Rothwell and Desborough, with the cash generated split between good causes in both towns.

The Rothwell North Working Party campaigned for safe lorry access after complaints large vehicles were using residential streets and the builder agreed to install ANPR cameras to monitor and enforce the approved route.

Desborough Town Council was handed the funds to distribute in its area and have awarded 17 organisations grants of between £500 and nearly £5,000:

Community groups in Rothwell were awarded their share of the funds earlier this year.

Zac Hurst, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Midlands, told HFM: “This initiative was aimed at providing a safe route for construction traffic during development.

“We are pleased that local charities in Rothwell and Desborough will benefit from the funds raised by this initiative.”
