Firefighters were called out after a major water leak inside a former Market Harborough bank.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by, who noticed electrics sparking and water pouring through the ceiling of the former Halifax branch on The Square on Saturday night.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service told HFM: “We were called at 11.42pm and on arrival the crew found excessive amounts of water on the ground and first floors of the premises.

“They were quickly able to isolate the water supply and make the premises safe.”

The premises have been vacant since the bank closed in 2021.
