Parents Alerted After Strep A Case In Market Harborough

Parents have been alerted after a child in Market Harborough was diagnosed with the Strep A infection.
Robert Smyth Academy was informed yesterday that one of its pupils had the condition and it is understood there are also some cases among local primary school children.
Strep A mainly causes mild illnesses such as a sore throat, scarlet fever or skin infections and can be easily treated, although nine children in the UK have died with the bacterial infection.
Robert Smyth has urged parents to lookout for symptoms and report any confirmed diagnosis to the school.
It says it has acted in accordance with guidance from the East Midlands Health Protection Team and will continue to proactively communicate with students, staff, and parents.
The school is also reinforcing the use of hand sanitiser and enhancing cleaning of the school site.
There have been over 600 cases of Strep A in the East Midlands since September.
