Concern At Lack Of Action To Improve Air Quality In Kibworth

Concern has been expressed nothing has yet been done to improve air quality in Kibworth.
It is over five years since Harborough District Council declared an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) along part of the A6, because levels of nitrogen dioxide caused by vehicle fumes were breaching approved limits.

Improvements to three key junctions onto the A6 were identified as being a way to help deal with issue, by reducing queues.
Although air quality did improve in the area in 2020 and 2021, Harborough District Council is putting that down to less traffic being on the roads because of Covid lockdowns.
At a meeting this week, the council’s Cabinet expressed ‘disappointment’ at the lack of progress by Leicestershire County Council highways in moving plans forward.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council told HFM: “We’re aware of the concerns expressed and we’ll be providing an update to our own appropriate members and the district council in due course.”
The meeting also heard for the fourth year running since the declaration of an AQMA in Lutterworth in 2001, annual Nitrogen Dioxide results have not exceeded the approved limit.
