Extension To Market Harborough Cemetery Set For Approval

A scheme to extend Market Harborough cemetery into a small area of the neighbouring Leisure Centre grounds could be approved next week.

An additional 76 burial plots would be created and new trees and hedging planted, if councillors back the recommendation to grant planning permission.

The expansion is needed while Harborough District Council continues a search for suitable land for a new cemetery, as the Northampton Road site is approaching capacity.

Originally the plan was to create space for 99 extra burial plots, but this was reduced to leave adequate space for the landscaping works.
