Council Leader Stresses ‘No Decision’ Made On Extra Houses

No decision has yet been made as to whether new homes earmarked for Leicester will be built across Harborough.
Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough Council, has spoken out following reports an agreement has already been reached to build nearly 2,000 extra houses in the District over the next 14 years.
While some other areas of the county have accepted additional numbers, Harborough councillors won’t make a decision until the autumn, by which time government advice on the matter could change.
All Councils in Leicestershire have been asked to agree the so-called ‘Statement of Common Ground’ as the city says there is a lack of suitable land available to meet its own housing target.
The proposal is for 140 additional homes to be built annually across Harborough District until 2036, in addition to Harborough’s own annual target of 534.
