New Name For Region’s Electricity Distribution Firm

The HFM region’s electricity distribution company will have a new name from next month.

Western Power Distribution has been bought by National Grid in a deal worth £7.8m.

A spokesperson for Western Power told HFM: “From 19 September, WPD will be known as National Grid – but will continue to deliver the same vital services to its eight million customers.

“This means that customers should still call 105 if they are experiencing a power cut, or get in touch by phone or online if they want to request a new connection, or information about any of its other services.

“The move will see the company become part of the largest electricity distribution and transmission business in the UK, joining forces to ensure a clean, fair and resilient energy system for everyone, well into the future.

“National Grid is already leading the change to carbon-free energy such as solar and wind power.”
