Written by on 16th March 2022

There has been a big rise in Covid-19 cases across Harborough with the number more than doubling in a week.

656 people tested positive in the District in the seven days to yesterday – up from 306 the previous week.

Today’s infection rate of 533.8 cases per 100,000 people is the second highest in Leicestershire.

Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health for Leicestershire, is pleading with people to self-isolate if they test positive or have symptoms, to prevent the spread of the virus., despite it no longer being a legal requirement.

He fears the current rate could be even higher:

The majority of new cases across Harborough have been in the 30-50 age group and rise here mirrors similar increases in cases across the county and country.

Just over 200 people are currently being treated for Covid-19 in Leicester’s three main hospitals.
