Villagers Rally Round To Keep Church Open

Residents in Marston Trussell are rallying round to ensure their historic village church can stay open.

St Nicholas Church
Fears for the future of St Nicholas’ were expressed earlier this month, due to a lack of people to help run it.
A meeting called to discuss the situation was well attended by residents and Rector, Rev Canon Miranda Hayes, told Hfm: “We had an encouraging meeting, with a good deal of village support.
“There is clearly affection towards St. Nicholas’ church, and a sense of personal attachment, particularly amongst those who have significant family links going back through the generations.
“Quite a few who attended have offered to lend a hand and support the life of St. Nicholas’, and seek to ensure there is a positive and life-affirming future.”
A new group made up of villagers is set to be formed to help run and maintain the church.
There were concerns the church would have to close if more help could not be found, as it has been without a Church Warden for two years and only two people were on the Parochial Church Council, responsible for the upkeep of the building.
