Final Go-Ahead For Clampdown On ‘Laughing Gas’
Written by HFM News on 28th September 2021
New legislation aimed at tackling the use of so-called ‘laughing gas’ across Harborough will come into force after the final go-ahead was given at a council meeting last night.
Psychoactive substances like nitrous oxide will be banned in public places, giving Police powers to seize them, and arrest people who don’t comply.
As well as being a health hazard to those who inhale it to get an instant ‘high,’ the small silver canisters the gas is contained within, have been causing litter problems across the area.
Because nitrous oxide has legitimate uses and is not illegal to possess, dealing with the issue up til now has proved difficult for Police.
Harborough District Council will introduce the new Public Place Protection Order.
