Over 1,000 People Back Campaign To Save Services At Market Harborough Day Centre

Over 1,000 people have signed petitions calling on services for adults with disabilities to continue at Roman Way Day Centre in Market Harborough.
Leicestershire County Council wants to stop providing ‘in-house’ support for people with physical and learning disabilities at bases across the county, instead offering alternative services via the private sector.
But campaigners, including families of people who attend Roman Way, say that will have a big impact on their loved ones.
People have been signing an on-line petition and also paper versions demanding a re-think, which will be presented to the County Council bosses, who are currently consulting on the proposals.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We already pay for many families to get support from the independent sector and will continue to work with providers to ensure that we have appropriate service provision available.
“We have started a consultation, which runs until midnight on October 26, and we’ll use the responses from that to draw up proposals that will go to the council’s cabinet on 14 December 2021.
“Before that point, it is too early to say how the service will be provided. “We understand the sensitivity surrounding the consultation and would like to thank people for their feedback.
“We have been keeping families affected informed at every step and whatever decisions are made they will be supported through any change.”
