20mph Limits To Be Made Official 27 Years After Signs Went Up

Written by on 14th May 2021

A 20mph speed limit on over 25 residential streets in Market Harborough is to be made official – nearly 30 years after signs went up.

The safety measure in streets off Coventry Road has been in place since 1994, but only on an informal basis.

Leicestershire County Council now wants to impose an official order, which would make the limit enforceable by Police.

The 20mph limit will soon be ‘official’

A spokesperson told Hfm: “The 20mph zones on these roads have been in place on an informal basis since 1994.

“The safety of motorists and pedestrians will always be our priority so we have made the decision to formalise these speed limits.”

As part of the process, the Council has had to advertise the move, allowing people to object if they wish.

Roads affected are: Adamswood Close • Austins Close • Charles Street • Clarke Street • East Street • Fairfield Road • Fairway • Gardiner Street • Goward Street • Harcourt Street • Hearth Street • Highcross Street • Highfield Street • Horsefair Close • Knoll Street • Logan Court • Logan Crescent • Logan Street • Morley Street • Nelson Street • Norbury Close • Northleigh Grove • Old School Mews • Southleigh Grove • Spencer Street • Stevens Street • Wartnaby Street
