‘Temporary’ Traffic Lights Set To Be Made Permanent

Temporary traffic lights installed either side of the railway bridge on Kettering Road in Little Bowden last year are set to be made permanent.

They were put up as part of a scheme to support safer cycling and walking during the Covid-19 lockdown and highway bosses say they have received lots of positive comments since.

The wider cycling lanes will also be kept, with a public consultation of making the measures permanent to be launched.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “The funding we received from the Department for Transport was to help support safer walking and cycling around our county during the covid-19 lockdown.

“We are pleased to have received a lot of positive feedback from residents about our work on Kettering Road, Market Harborough.

“Moving forward as the county begins to travel more, we are proposing to keep the widened cycle lane and to make the temporary traffic lights on Kettering Road permanent. Both of which are helping keep cyclists and motorists safe and easing traffic congestion by keeping traffic flowing through Market Harborough.

“There will be public consultation before any changes are made and we encourage the public to continue to let us know their views.”
