Warning Over Cold-Call Phone Scams
Written by HFM News on 14th April 2021
Tricksters are trying to get people in and around Market Harborough to part with their bank details in two phone scams.
They are posing as HM Revenue and Customs in one, with a recorded message saying you will be arrested for tax fraud unless you press two to continue the call.
The other purports to be from BT telling the caller their internet and telephone line will be disconnected due to a security issue, unless they speak to someone.
Several Hfm listeners have reported receiving such calls in recent days.
Both BT and HM Revenue and Customs are urging people to ignore the calls and urge anyone who receives them to hang up and not press any digits to be connected.
