Campaign To Target Speeding Motorcyclists On B6047
Written by HFM News on 14th April 2021
A two-week Police campaign is underway to clampdown on speeding motorcycles and to encourage drivers to pass cyclists safety.
It will involve speed checks on the B6047 between Market Harborough, the A47, and Melton Mowbray – a popular route for bikers – and other education and enforcement activities.
Between 2016 and 2019, 29 people died and 236 were injured in collisions involving motorcycles in Leicestershire.
Four people died and 143 were seriously injured in crashes involving a bicycle.
Jonathan Clarkson, spokesperson for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership, said “Supporting this national campaign with local activities and increased enforcement is an important way of raising road safety issues amongst cyclists, motorcyclists and other road users.
“Unfortunately cyclists and motorcyclists are over-represented within our road collision statistics and we want to ensure we are doing all we can with both education and enforcement to keep these two groups safer.”
