Youngsters Plant Hundreds Of Trees In Latest Harborough Woodland Project

Nearly 2,000 trees have been planted in the latest project by the Harborough Woodland.

The group teamed up with the 1^st Bowdens Scout Group and Waterloo Cottage Farm for the planting on Saturday, in the grounds of the farm in Great Oxendon.

A hundred youngsters were part of the day and Bruce Durham, Chair of Harborough Woodland, a not-for-profit group promoting and enabling the responsible expansion of wooded areas locally, told Hfm why the group was launched a year ago:

The collaboration between Harborough Woodland, Waterloo Cottage Farm, and The Scouts was part funded by The Tree Council’s Branching Out Fund.

Harborough Woodland has already planted 2040 tree whips free of charge on 21 projects in their first year and some trees have been delivered for landowners to self-plant due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Woodland Trust highlights that only 13% of the UK’s land area is covered by trees compared to an average of 37% in Europe and the Harborough area’s tree cover, of 4%, is the second lowest in the UK.
