A Year On From Harborough’s First Case Of Coronavirus

Written by on 5th March 2021

It is a year since the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed in the Harborough District.

Since then 159 people have sadly died, after testing positive, including 50 people living in care homes.

To date there have been 4,847 cases across Harborough.

The first case in the District was just the second in Leicestershire, after a man who had returned from international travel infected his wife and two children.

There has been a slight rise in cases across Harborough in the past week and North West Leicestershire now has the highest infection rate in England, followed by Corby and Leicester.

Director of Public Health Mike Sandys told Hfm people appear to be ‘letting their guard down’ since the government’s ‘road map’ was published:

Across Leicestershire, there have been 77,000 cases and 2,300 people have died since the start of the pandemic.

4,000 people have been treated in hospital and discharged.
