Leicestershire’s Hospitals Not Included In Initial Vaccine Roll-Out
Written by HFM News on 7th December 2020
Leicestershire’s hospitals are not included in a list of places where the first Covid-19 vaccines will be given.
The Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, which runs community hospitals including St Luke’s in Market Harborough, was initially named as being one of 53 hubs last week, but has been removed after the list was reduced to 50 parts of the country.
Northampton General Hospital does make the list and is expected to receive supplies this week, as part of the largest scale immunisation programme in the country’s history.
Nearly a million doses are being brought in for people aged 80 and over, care home workers and some health service staff, after the UK’s ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer-BionTech vaccination in total, enough for 20 million people.
Leicester Racecourse is expected to be one of the vaccination centres and supplies will also be given to local GP surgeries.
The Department for Health and Social Care and NHS England have been approached for comment in relation to Leicestershire being removed from the hospital hub list.
