Toys On The Table Christmas Appeal Launches

This year’s Hfm-backed Toys On The Table appeal has launched and people are being urged to give generously, as it is set to help more youngsters than ever before this Christmas.
The appeal for new toys and gifts aims to ensure every disadvantaged child across Leicestershire gets a present to open on Christmas Day, when they otherwise wouldn’t, and because of the effect of the pandemic on many family finances, more youngsters are expected to be in need than previous years.
Already organisers have received 1,600 referrals – more than twice the usual number at this stage of the appeal.
Harborough Market has stepped forward to be the main drop-off point for toys this year instead of Hfm, as Covid-19 restrictions means the radio station premises can unfortunately not be used.
Bill Bowley from Toys On the Table tells us more about the appeal this year:
Toys On The Table distributes toys via referrals from social service, foodbanks, schools, women’s aid groups and last year Hfm listeners donated around 3,500 toys and gifts, which were among over 12,000 donated across Leicestershire, given around 4,000 children.
Toys and gifts for babies to children aged up to 16, which must be new and unwrapped, can be dropped off during the lockdown period to door staff at Harborough Market, Tuesday to Saturday 8am to 3pm, and in the General Hall once lockdown ends.
The last day for toys to be dropped off at the market is Christmas Eve before 3pm.
Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council told Hfm he was delighted the Council could step in to offer the use of its Market Hall for the appeal this year:
Toys can also be donated at Santander on the High Street in Market Harborough, between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.
