MP Speaks Out Against Housebuilding Allocations
Written by HFM News on 20th October 2020
Harborough’s MP has spoken out against plans that would allow more than 1,200 new homes to be built in the District every year – more than double the current agreed number.
The government’s proposed shake-up of the planning system favours developments in rural areas and would see housing allocations dictated by a government formula, instead of on a local level.
The Harborough District currently needs to build an average of 592 new homes a year.
Neil O’Brien told Hfm why he raised concerns in the House of Commons:
Harborough District Council has already raised its concerns about the proposals during a consultation by the government on the changes.
