Sharp Rise In Coronavirus Cases Across Harborough
Written by HFM News on 30th September 2020
There have now been over 500 coronavirus cases in the Harborough District since the start of the pandemic and the number of people testing positive continues to rise sharply.
The total now sits at 541 according to official government figures, with 41 new cases last week, compared with 18 in the previous seven days.
The infection rate in the District per 100,000 people rose from 19.2 to 43.7, up to the week ending September 25th.
Kibworth and Great Glen have also been added to a list of ‘hotspot’ areas, with 10 cases in the past two weeks.
Leicestershire’s Director of Public Health, Mike Sandys, said: “Because of the large jump in cases nationally, none of our areas of the county feature in the top 30 areas of concern across the UK, but our rates are still concerning.
“The latest figures, however, do show that we are putting a bit more distance between the Leicestershire weekly incidence rate of Covid-19 cases and the picture nationally.
“The message remains that it’s up to us all to fight to restrict this virus – to get tested if you have symptoms, stick to the rules around social distancing, wear a face covering and follow hand-washing routines.”
