Villagers Say Final Farewell To ‘Fred’
Written by HFM News on 30th September 2020
People have turned out to pay their respects to a popular homeless man as his funeral was held today.
Around 50 gathered near the Smeeton Road Recreation Ground in Kibworth and applauded as the hearse carrying the coffin of Stephen Winter, who was known in the village as Fred, passed by.
The procession then went through Fleckney, where he was originally from, before the service was held.
Fred, who has been described as one of Kibworth’s most-loved characters, was sadly found dead at the Smeeton Road Recreation Ground earlier this month.
Police are treating his death as ‘explained,’ but not suspicious.
A fundraiser set up to pay for a permanent memorial to Fred in Kibworth has raised over £7,400.

The funeral procession sets off from Smeeton Road in Kibworth.
