Charity Boosted As Business Booms At Harborough Shop

A Market Harborough shop has raised £600 to support staff and patients at St Luke’s Hospital, thanks to people buying face coverings.

Anand Shoes gave 10% from the sale of each one to the NHS Charities Together and has sold around 900 during the past few months.

Because of lockdown, shoe repairs dropped dramatically, as people were not walking far, so owner Kailash Chavda and his son Rajan diversified into making the coverings, using machinery in the shop, before a tailor in Market Harborough continued the production.

It’s proved a real success as the independent High Street shop, which is thanking all who have supported them and the charity drive, has had its busiest period in 25 years.

Rajan spoke to Hfm:

Face coverings remain on sale at the shop, although the fundraiser has now ended.
