Plea For Respect As Litter Louts Blight Popular Park

There are concerns about the large amount of litter being left strewn across Little Bowden Recreation Ground after people gather there of an evening.

Glass bottles, cans and other rubbish is posing a risk to users of the park and volunteers have been helping to clear it up each morning for the past few days.
Harborough Council is warning dropping litter can result in a £150 fine – it continues to empty bins and is carrying out extra clean-ups as required, but is urging people to take their litter home with them if bins become full.
A spokesman told Hfm: “An unprecedented increase in park use, due to the easing of the lockdown restrictions, has unfortunately resulted in more litter. This is an issue across Leicestershire and nationally.
“Dropping litter in parks is not acceptable and can result in a £150 fine. It can also be dangerous and we would urge people to take responsibility for their litter and place in bins or take home.
“We have teams carrying out patrols during the day and in the evening and talking to park users. The Community Safety Team is also working with the Police to increase patrols.”
