Over 11,000 People ‘Furloughed’ Across Harborough

harb district sign11,500 people across Harborough have been furloughed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

That works out at just over a quarter of all employees across the District, according to new figures.

Over 87,000 workers in Leicestershire and 96,000 in Northamptonshire are being supported by the government scheme, which covers 80 per cent of their salary, capped at £2,500 a month.

The number of people across the Harborough District claiming unemployment benefits has more than doubled since the pandemic began.

Figures last month revealed 1,530 needed help in April, up from 705 in March.
