Thieves Target Catalytic Converters In Car Parks
Written by HFM News on 4th June 2020
Harborough Police are issuing a warning after a spate of catalytic converter thefts from cars.
Thieves are mainly targeting three models of cars built before 2015 – the Honda Jazz and Accord and Toyota Prius.
Thefts have been taking place in public car parks in broad daylight and people are being urged to report any suspicious persons seen going underneath vehicles, who may appear to be a mechanic.
The thieves are removing the converters for the precious metals contained in them.
Sergeant Pete Jelbert spoke to Hfm:
Police say people can also buy security devices to make it harder for thieves to remove catalytic converters.
