Police are thanking the vast number of people who respected the rules over the Easter Weekend.

Patrols of parks and attractions like Foxton Locks were stepped up to ensure people weren’t temped out for more than their daily exercise.

The town centre was very quiet over the weekend

Some calls were made to Police from people concerned about the behaviour of others though.

Pc Steve Winn from Harborough Police was one of the officers on patrol and told Hfm the kind of reports they have been following up:

Empty car park at Foxton Locks

An emergency fund launched to support local community and charity groups during the Coronavirus crisis has been increased by an extra half a million pounds to cope with demand.

It was set-up by Leicestershire County Council to ensure they can continue to carry out vital work at a time their own finances are being hit and already over 180 have applied for help.

Among those to receive cash so far from the fund – that now totals £1.5m – are The Well in Kibworth,  Harborough Against Bullying and Broughton Alive, which is support people in Broughton Astley.

Cllr Nick Rushton, leader of the county council, said: “The Communities Fund will ensure the work of volunteers and groups can keep communities thriving in these challenging times.

“There has been a huge response so far which is fantastic.

“And that’s why we’ve decided to increase the funding pot by another half-a-million pounds.

“It’s never been more important for communities to band together and support each other.”

“These awards will help groups to continue their crucial work and step up activities to support vulnerable people and those isolating.

“This fund enables people to stay safe by staying at home and ultimately, saves lives.

“I’d like to thank our volunteers and community groups for their fantastic work.”
