Final Go-Ahead For Path In Memory Of Adam

The government has given the go-ahead a safe footpath to be created between Lubenham and Market Harborough, in memory of 13-year-old Adam Mugridge, who was killed while cycling to school 13 years ago.

The campaign by Adam’s family received a massive boost in 2018, when highway bosses officially recognised the mile-long route, along the old railway line, as a public right of way, although the owner of the majority of the land it will go through lodged an objection.

Following a Planning Inquiry, with an Inspector has dismissed the objection and ruled the path can go-ahead.

Adam’s family have raised over £100,000 towards its creation, after setting up the Adam’S’ mile charity following his death in 2006, when he fell from his bike into the path of a lorry just outside Lubenham.

Adam’s Mum Kate cried when she heard the news. She said: “Adam was 13 when he had his accident. There are 13 Adam’Smile trustees and its taken us 13 years to get this decision which I heard about on the 13^th March! Nothing can bring Adam back to us, but it’s amazing that we now have a footpath in his memory forever.”

David, Adam’s Dad said: “I want to thank all of the trustees for supporting Kate, our daughter Lucie and me throughout this campaign. I also want to thank the hundreds of people and organisations who have donated to Adam’Smile. The next step is to speak to Leicestershire County Council to see how we get the footpath changed to a cycle path, and all those donations will really help us achieve that goal.”

Talks with Leicestershire County Council will now take place ahead of work being carried out on the pathway.
