Swimmers Raise Over £5,000!

Swimmers raised over £5,000 at the Market Harborough Swim Marathon over the weekend.

The Hfm-backed event at the Leisure Centre saw teams from groups, clubs and schools swim in relay for fifty minutes non-stop.

Over 180 swimmer took part, covering a total of 5008 lengths of the pool, which is nearly 125km.

Two teams of 7 swimmers from Robert Smyth Academy, swam an amazing 137 and 143 lengths and six teams of 19 swimmers from Spectrum Autism completed 525 lengths between them.

It was the 10^th time the fundraiser was organised by the Rotary Club of Market Harborough, and during that time more than £65,000 has been given away to local good causes.

Rotarian Carole Baldam, Chair of the group of Rotarians organising the SwiMarathon, said “We are delighted to have raised so much money this year from the sponsorship. It will benefit local causes and some will go to Rotary charities. It is lovely to see so many people of all ages swimming together and having so much fun”.

Awards for the teams who swam most lengths, had the best team name, and raised most money will be given out at a special presentation event on June 8th.

Also, at that event, the local grants from the money raised will be given out.
