Litter Louts Fined As Crackdown Continues
Written by HFM News on 19th February 2020
A new clampdown on litter louts across the Harborough District has seen fines totaling over £400 handed out in the past few weeks.
Three drivers have been given £150 fixed penalty notices after patrolling Council officers witnessed cigarettes and food items being thrown out of vehicles.
Two of the offences were in Market Harborough – the other in Lutterworth.
Harborough Council launched a crackdown on littering last November, pledging a zero tolerance approach – particularly when it comes to rubbish being thrown out of vehicles.
Council Leader Phil King spoke to Hfm:
Enforcement officials are reminding people it is the registered keeper that will face a fine if anyone is seen littering from their vehicle.
They are urging people to report incidents they witness and send in any dashcam footage, by emailing it to envirocrime@harborough.gov.uk.
The Council has also issued 12 fixed penalty notices of £400 since April 2019, relating to illegal flytipping across the Harborough District.
