Council Investment

Harborough District Council has revealed it’s secured a major property investment in Market Harborough town centre – as part of its pledge to make purchases which will benefit both residents and retailers.

Land and buildings next to the Council owned car park at The Commons and The Square – which include Tesco and B&M Stores – and some residential flats – have just been bought by its business arm Harborough District Commercial Services.

It’ll take over as landlord for these properties from New River – to generate income and so reduce its reliance on grants from the Government.

The Council admits no firm proposals for the site have been developed at this stage, but says it will now consider future development opportunities to improve the town centre – which it hopes could lead to new facilities for residents, businesses and visitors.
