A petition signed by 369 people has been handed to a bus operator, which will dramatically cut journeys serving the Southern Estate in Market Harborough from Sunday.

It calls for a compromise after Arriva announced none of its X3 services will visit the estate between 10am and 4pm, following a timetable change.

Those who rely on the bus want just one additional lunchtime service to and from the town centre to be included.

The petition was launched by Mike Parsons, with support from local councillors.

Cllr Phil Knowles received the petition from Mike Parsons, which has now been passed to Arriva

Arriva says it has taken the decision to reflect changing customer demand, with buses only serving the estate at key commuting and shopping times.

So far the firm are not willing to make any adjustments – a spokesman told Hfm: “Changes to Route X3 will go ahead as planned on 24th February. We continue to discuss the matter with our local stakeholders.”

Currently 26 buses a day serve the estate a day – this will be reduced to just 8.
