Railway To Shut For 6 Days

The railway through Market Harborough will close for six days so a key part of improvements can take place.
No trains will run between May 28th and June 2nd while a new section of straighter track is connected to the existing rails, close to the station.

Network Rail – who are spending £53m pounds on the upgrade – have also announced today a new footbridge and lifts, to improve disabled access at the railway station, will be in place by the end of the year as will an additional 200 spaces in the car park, taking the number to 500.
Buses will replace trains during the closure.
Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, told Hfm: “This work is the crux of the Market Harborough Line Speed Improvement project and will see the new, straightened track connected to the existing line.
“There’s never an ideal time to carry out this type of work and we do appreciate that the work will be disruptive. We are working closely with East Midlands Trains to keep passengers moving and we thank passengers for their patience.”
