Police are urging people not to travel to East Carlton Country Park after issuing 18 fines for breaches of Covid-19 rules over the weekend.

A group who had travelled 60 miles from Hertfordshire to meet family were among those issued fixed penalty notices.

People from different households gathering for picnics were also dealt with by officers, who have stepped up enforcement of Coronavirus rules as Corby’s infection rate is the highest in England.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police told Hfm: “Some of the tickets were issued for people travelling from Hertfordshire to East Carlton Park to meet family.

“Five people were also issued tickets for having a picnic with people from different households and others were also issued tickets simply for gathering in groups all from different households.”

East Carlton Country Park is on the edge of the Welland Valley and although the car park is closed, people are able to walk through the woods and grasslands.

Under current restrictions, people can leave their homes to exercise, but this should be limited to once per day, and they should not travel outside their local area.
