Work To Start On New Aldi Store

Demolition work is to begin ahead of the construction of a new Aldi supermarket in Market Harborough.

Buildings will be flattened on the former Glenmere Timber site on Rockingham Road to make-way for the £5m store, which will be built over the next ten months.

When the new larger store opens next autumn it will replace the retailer’s current base on Springfield Street.

Staff will relocate there and around 15 new jobs will be created.

Planning permission for the development at the junction with Gores Lane was granted in May 2023 and Aldi says construction works will take place in line with the approved construction management plan, reducing distribution to residents.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Aldi is committed to working with the council and residents throughout the construction phase and looks forward to welcoming customers to its new store next year.

“The development of our new Market Harborough store is a multi-million investment in the town and will create jobs in the construction phase as well as additional permanent jobs in the new store. Existing colleagues at our Market Harborough store will transfer to the new store on opening.

“We look forward to welcoming existing and new customers alike to our new store in 2025.”

Planning permission was also given for seven small business ‘starter units’ on the site, but they will not be built as part of the store construction project.

Glenmere Timber vacated the site earlier this year and continues to operate from other sites in Market Harborough.
