Work Finally Underway To Tackle Kibworth ‘Pond’ Issue

Work has finally got underway to stop flooding beside a footbridge over the railway in Kibworth every time it rains.

The issue, which has been likened to a pond by residents, has been a constant annoyance to pedestrians using the route off School Road since a new bridge was installed six months ago.

Residents, councillors and Harborough MP Neil OBrien have been pushing for action from Network Rail, who have now returned to the site to fix the drainage problem.

The problem has become a source of jokes throughout the village in recent weeks, with someone even placing this sign beside the water:

Speaking prior to the work commencing, a Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are sorry about the continued issues the drainage at Grammar School bridge is causing for the village.

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience as we work with Leicestershire County Council to rectify the issue.”

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, county council cabinet member for flooding, said: “We’re pleased to support Network Rail in their work to address the drainage issue, which came to light as the result of the footpath being raised as part of the work which the rail company carried out when the bridge was constructed.”
