Warning Over Trespassing and Open Water Dangers in Heatwave

Police are warning people to stay out of open water during the hot weather following reports of swimming in private ponds and lakes across the Harborough district.

Officers say cold water shock can be deadly, even in warm weather, and eight young people are known to have drowned in open water across England and Wales during this week’s heatwave.

Incidents of trespassing and swimming in ponds and lakes have been reported in the Leire and Broughton Astley areas, while concerns have also been raised about the welfare of animals during the high temperatures.

Police are urging owners to make sure pets and livestock have access to water and shade during the hot weather.
