A thief has stolen a pensioner’s handbag while she was shopping in Market Harborough town centre.
It was grabbed after the woman, in her 70s, placed it on the ground while paying at the GT News shop in St Mary’s Place, also home to the the town centre Post Office branch.
Police say the victim took her eyes off the bag for less than two minutes and did not notice who stole it.
It happened just after 10am yesterday.
The incident follows several last month, where handbags were stolen as people were loading shopping into cars in supermarket car parks in Market Harborough.
Officers are urging people to try and keep handbags on their person at all times.
Free purse bells and chains – aimed at alerting owners to anyone trying to take it – are available for free from Market Harborough Police station and Council offices.
Anyone with information about the theft should call Police on 101.
