Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is warning motorists not to drive through floodwater after rescuing a man from the roof of his car near Market Harborough.

The incident happened at the ford in Medbourne on Thursday night, when a driver attempted to drive through around two feet of water and became stranded.

Fire crews were called just before midnight and rescued the man from the roof of his BMW.

The driver was unharmed but the same could not be said for the vehicle, which was left at the scene.

Firefighters said that, as a rescue service, they are there to save lives — not to recover vehicles.

With flood warnings becoming more frequent, the fire service is again urging motorists never to enter floodwater, as conditions can be unpredictable and extremely dangerous.
