Villagers Lose Sleep As Manhole Cover Bangs Like ‘Machine Gun’
Written by HFM News on 21st June 2024
People living beside the A6 in Kibworth are struggling to sleep because of noise from a manhole cover which resembles ‘a machine gun’ constantly being fired.
Homeowners near the site on Leicester Road have ensured the issue for ten weeks and are demanding something is done to deal with it.
The banging noise has been measured at nearly 100 decibels and is also leaving residents unable to relax in their gardens.

Anglian Water is responsible for the manhole cover and has pledged to fix the issue after previous attempts to make repairs failed.
Stuart Wood and his family are among those affected and he told HFM what it is like:

Anglian Water say work to fix the cover is scheduled for week commencing 1 July, pending approval from the local highways authority.
A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that the manhole on the A6 in Kibworth has been noisy recently.
“While loose manhole covers aren’t dangerous, we appreciate that the noise can be frustrating.
“Our team dampened the noise coming from the manhole with wedges however, these have since been knocked loose.
“We’re working with the local highways authority to carry out this repair in the next few weeks.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we get things back to normal.”
