Village Band Perform Alongside ‘D-Day Darling’

Written by on 10th August 2020

They can’t practice or perform together at the moment because of the pandemic, but that’s not stopping members of Naseby Village Band picking up their instruments.

And they’ve pulled off a bit of a coup, by getting Emily Brooks from the D-Day Darlings, finalists on Britain’s Got Talent in 2018, to sing on their rendition of wartime song ‘We’ll Meet Again’ by Vera Lynn.

The musicians all recorded themselves at home before the song was mixed together and released on You Tube.

Flute player and band secretary Louise Shaw told Hfm it’s great to be making music again, especially alongside Emily:

Emily Brooks, from the D-Day Darlings said: “My sister in law Jo Fowler, one of the flute players, sent me a video of the band’s first socially distanced performance, so I knew they were still making beautiful music through lock down. I knew though that it had been difficult for the group not to be able to be together. It was my pleasure to be able to sing with the band and and I hope that we might be able to collaborate again when things get back to normal.”

Naseby Village Band started as a small group of amateur musicians in 2013 with around 6 members and is now an 18 piece wind band with flutes, clarinets, oboe, saxophones, tubas, trombone and trumpets.

Many of the group only took up their instruments a few years ago and others have not played since school.

The band are always happy to welcome new members and are currently particularly looking for Trombone, Trumpet, Clarinet, French Horn or Percussion players.

When the band can meet again they rehearse every Thursday, 6pm at Naseby Village Hall.
