Vigil Held In Market Harborough in Memory Of Dogs Shot Dead

A vigil has been held in Market Harborough to pay tribute to two dogs shot dead by Police in London last month.
Around 40 people attended the event near the dog walking area in Welland Park yesterday, where speeches were made and flowers and other items placed on fencing.
The event was one of a number of vigils which took place across the country, following the deaths of Staffordshire bull terriers Marshall and Millions last month.
The incident sparked outcry among some animal lovers and a petition calling for the Metropolitan Police to be held accountable for what happened reached over a million signatures.

The Metropolitan Police say officers were called to reports of a woman being attacked by a dog in Tower Hamlets, where homeless owner Louie Turnbull, 46, was arrested.
A spokesperson said officers spoke to the owner of the dogs but added: “Following this interaction, which failed to bring the dogs satisfactorily under control, police firearms officers destroyed the two dogs at the scene.”
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation.
