Unusual Explosives Handed Into Police

Staff at Market Harborough Police Station were surprised when a batch of maritime distress flares and smoke beacons were handed-in.

Despite being in land-locked Leicestershire and miles from the sea, the explosives had sat in someone’s shed for over 20 years.

Officers had to make contact with the Coastguard for advice on how they should be handled, before Pc Steve Winn transported them to Norfolk, where a Police Marine Unit is to arrange for their disposal.
