Roads To Be Gritted Again

Northamptonshire County Council has u-turned on its decision to stop gritting 255 miles of roads after reports of a number of crashes.

It removed 497 roads – including over 30 in the Hfm region – from its routine gritting network last October, to save £475,000.

Roads in and around Desborough, Arthingworth, Stoke Albany, Naseby and Kelmarsh were among those removed from the routine gritting list.

After over 3,000 signed a petition calling for a re-think, amid safety concerns, all will now be treated again for the remainder of the winter.

Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Environment Cllr Ian Morris said: “We have listened closely to the feedback we have received and I am delighted that we are able to act on it. Our increasingly stabilised financial position alongside the invaluable assistance of our partner Northampton Borough Council means we are able to put extra money into the service to make improvements.”
