Cats Die After Suspected Anti-Freeze Poisoning

Two cats living in the same street in Fleckney have died from suspected anti-freeze poisoning within days of each other.

They were both rushed to vets for emergency treatment after being found struggling to move on Elizabeth Road, but sadly had to be put down.

One-year old Timothy sadly had to be put down

Nicole Hunter says she found her cat called Timothy in distress in the garden of her home in Elizabeth Road.

The animal, just one year old, was put on a drip but his kidneys began to fail and the vet decided the kindest option was to put him to sleep.

His death came just days after another cat living on the same street suffered similar symptoms and also died.

Nicole said: “The sad thing is just days before this happened to Timothy we saw a neighbour’s cat in trouble. He was convulsing and was in such distress and we later found out he had died.

“Then a few days later we come home and find Timothy in the garden meowing loudly clearly in pain and he was struggling to move so we rushed him for help but sadly there was nothing that could be done.

“We really just want to warn other pet-owners to be aware and to try and get the message across about not leaving anti-freeze around as it is deadly to cats.”

The RSPCA is investigating and is urging people with cats in the area to keep a close eye on them and to seek immediate veterinary attention if they suspect their pets have also been poisoned.

Inspector Alison North is investigating and told Hfm: “As there have been suspected anti-freeze poisonings in the area we would urge all cat-owners to keep a close eye on their pets and their behaviour and if they suspect they have been poisoned we would advise they seek immediate veterinary attention.

“We would also ask people who are using anti-freeze to make sure they are extremely careful in their storage of it and how they dispose of it.

“If anyone has any information which can help us with our investigation they should call 0300 123 8018.”
