Tributes are being paid to talented Market Harborough singer Tony Julian, who has died aged 84 following a long battle with cancer.

Tony was well known across the area for his Rod Stewart tribute act and continued performing until recently despite his illness.

Tony regularly appeared at events in Market Harborough and supported HFM at a number of sold-out charity fundraisers over the years.

Friends, family and fellow performers have described him as a “true showman” and “a local legend”. One tribute said he was “without doubt one of the best front men you could ever want in your band”, while others remembered his humour, warmth and generosity.

Tony performed at many events in Market Harborough organised by Juliette Maher, who has paid this tribute:

Tony also performed at a number of HFM fundraisers and was known not just for his performances but also for his personality and love of conversation.

Colleagues recalled him popping into the station for a quick chat that often turned into hours of laughter, stories and reminiscing.

HFM’s Chris Jones described Tony Julian as a “local legend” who supported countless community events and became a close friend to many at HFM. He said Tony was “the best in the business” and would be greatly missed for both his talent and humour.

Tony is survived by his wife Tracey and his family.
