Written by on 31st March 2021

A group of travellers have been ordered to leave a car park in Market Harborough.

Around 10 caravans and a number of vehicles arrived last night and set up an illegal camp on the car park shared by Harborough Town Football Club and Market Harborough Rugby Club, off Northampton Road.

Police visited the site this morning and a Leicestershire Police spokesman told Hfm: “Officers are aware of an unauthorised encampment being set up at a sports ground in Northampton Road, Market Harborough.

“The encampment was reported to have been set up yesterday and officers have been to speak to the group who have set up camp in the area today.

Officers have also consulted with the Multi-Agency Travellers Unit and a notice has been served for the group to leave the site by 6pm tomorrow (Thursday).

A spokesman for Harborough District Council, which owns the land, told Hfm the authority is liaising with police to resolve the issue and will monitor the situation.
