Train Users Face Two Days Of Disruption By Strike Action

People using trains from Market Harborough are being warned of two days of disruption as staff at East Midlands Railway strike.
Train managers and senior conductors, who are members of the RMT Union, will walk out tomorrow and on Saturday in ongoing separate disputes over safety, pay and conditions.
A reduced timetable means there will be half the usual number of trains to and from London on both days.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said: “The deeply disappointing decision by the RMT to escalate its strike action means there will be significantly fewer staff available to work on trains and therefore a very reduced service.
EMR has done everything it can to allow additional time for the RMT to suspend the strike. However, the RMT has not responded to EMR’s formal offer and therefore EMR has been left with no option but to introduce a reduced timetable.”
RMT General Secretary, Mick Lynch, said: “RMT has been left with no choice but to put strike action back on East Midlands Railway for our Train Managers and Senior Conductors.
“It is astonishing that after weeks of negotiations, during which in good faith we suspended industrial action and believed progress was being made, the company has failed to make offers in writing to bring these disputes to a close.
“The strike action will send management a clear message that their utter contempt for the negotiations and their hard-working staff is totally unacceptable.”
