An iconic silhouette of a World War One ‘Tommy’ Soldier has been returned to The Square in Market Harborough after it was vandalised.

The WW1 ‘Tommy’ soldier is back beside the War Memorial

The six foot tall figure is back in front of the War Memorial, after being repaired by a local man who wishes to remain anonymous.

It was damaged and bent on Friday night, with the man responsible admitting criminal damage at Leicester Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was sentenced to a Community Order and ordered to pay compensation of £150.

The figures were placed across the country last year, as part of commemorations marking the end of the First World War.
